FAQs
1. Are you accepting new patients?
If you need a family healthcare provider, please register with Family Doctor Finder (online or by phone – information linked below). Family Doctor Finder is a service in Manitoba which links individuals with healthcare providers in their chosen geographical area. At Open Health Niverville, we work closely with Family Doctor Finder. When a doctor is accepting new patients, we will report this to Family Doctor Finder and they will reach out to the individuals on their waitlist.
Once established on the Doctor Finder waitlist, you are contacted by them directly based on their queue. They will provide you with a time to call the clinic. Family Doctor Finder then provides us with a list of patients who they have referred to our facility.
Once a Meet and Greet appointment is arranged at our facility, it is important to attend this appointment. If the Meet and Greet appointment is missed due to a no-show, the clinic is not obligated to rebook this appointment. We understand that emergencies do come up, therefore we ask for a phone call to reschedule the appointment even if short notice.

2. Do you have walk-in hours?
Open Health Niverville is not a walk-in clinic.
We offer limited same-day/next-day care with a physician who is available to both patients and non-patients of the clinic, based on provider availability, by appointment only, and on a limited basis. Availability may vary due to unforeseen circumstances.
While same-day appointments allow you to receive the care you need, they do not register you as an enrolled patient of the clinic. We also provide same-day appointment care on some Saturday mornings; a schedule is released quarterly on our website and Facebook page.

3. What is a virtual appointment?
A virtual appointment consists of audio and video communication between you and your clinician from your cell phone or home computer. You will receive a text or email link with instructions on how to log in and connect. Please be ready 5 minutes before your appointment time to review the prompts and permissions. Headphones or earbuds are recommended for best sound quality, but are not necessary. If the video link does not connect, your doctor will call you on the phone instead.
4. Can I get my prescription refilled without an appointment?
A prescription requires a follow-up visit at the end of the prescription, typically occurring between 3 and 6 months after. A pharmacy may request a short refill for you until a follow-up visit is arranged; however, this depends on the type of medication. There will be no prescription refills without an appointment for narcotics, stimulants, and sleep medications.
5. What do I need to bring to my appointment?
-
MB Health card or other provincial health card
-
List of medications you are currently taking
-
Pharmacy location used for your medication. We can typically directly fax your prescription to many Manitoba pharmacies.
-
A translator if English is not your first language and you would prefer to speak in another language.
6. What are uninsured services?
Uninsured services are services provided that are not covered by Manitoba Health. These include items such as medical reports requested by insurance companies, legal reports, transfer and access to medical records, and sick notes, for example.
7. What forms of payment are accepted at the clinic?
We can accept cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard. Credit card payments for any required uninsured services can also be completed over the phone with our staff using our point-of-sale software.
8. Do you have a lab?
Yes. The lab located inside Open Health is run by Shared Health Diagnostic Services and is open on Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Access to the lab is by appointment only. Please click the link below to book a lab appointment online.
9. What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours’ notice for any cancellations. Any missed appointments without a cancellation notice may result in a fee. We understand that emergencies do happen, so we ask for as much notice as possible.

Do you have an Emergency Response Information Kit?
E.R.I.K. kits help assist first responders if there is a situation where the person is unable to communicate necessary health information. These kits include information such as allergies, medications, health conditions, health ID, emergency contacts, and more!
These kits are great for seniors, people with chronic illnesses, people who live alone or with a caretaker, or people who have speech or language difficulties.
Talk to your provider at your next appointment about how you can get an E.R.I.K. kit!
